Dr. Walter Sussman is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) with fellowship training in sports medicine. Dr. Sussman graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford Maine, before completing his residency in PM&R at Emory University, where he served as chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Emory University where he provided covered for the Atlanta Dream WNBA team, Georgia Tech athletics, and Emory University athletics.
Dr. Sussman takes pride in promoting the patient experience, and
tailoring treatments to fit each patient and their treatment goals. In 2020, Dr. Sussman found Boston Sports & Biologics to offer patients a comprehensive approach to musculoskeletal injuries with a focus on providing alternatives to orthopedic surgery. Dr. Sussman manages both acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, and offers non-surgical alternatives to orthopedic surgery/conditions, including platelet rich plasma (PRP), autologous bone marrow concentrate stem cell injections and Tenex.
Dr. Sussman now serves as the Head Team Physician for the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and provides care for many of the
local high schools. He is a clinical Assistant Professor at the Tufts
University and is engaged in resident education. Dr. Sussman has
published multiple book chapters and articles in medical journals,
including on regenerative medicine, chronic tendon injuries, Tenex and
Dr. Sussman has a clinical interest in the use of ultrasound to diagnose musculoskeletal injuries and regenerative medicine, with a focus on using minimally invasive procedures including platelet rich plasma (PRP), stem cell injections and Tenex. Commonly treated conditions include arthritis, chronic tennis or golfers’ elbow, trigger finger, rotator cuff tears, calcific tendonitis, hip bursitis, patella tendonitis, Achilles tendonitis, Haglund deformity, and plantar fasciitis. Dr. Sussman also manages acute sports injuries and has completed specialized training in sports-related concussions. He has a clinical interest in post-concussion syndrome, and working with the athlete to develop a personalized return-to-play plan.
Dr. Sussman has published articles on ultrasound to diagnose
musculoskeletal injuries, regenerative injections and minimally invasive
procedures and concussion management (complete list of peer-reviewed articles).
